The Gallery in Malden to Host Performance Series in 2019

The Gallery, formerly located at 480 Main Street and now operating virtually, announces The Gallery 2019 Performance Series, a series of concerts, held at The John and Christina Markey Malden Senior Community Center, 7 Washington Street, Malden, that will showcase top talent performing acoustic, blues, and jazz originals as well as a blend of Mediterranean folk traditions throughout the year. The series also includes a monthly open mic night hosted by DJ Nomadik of SoulKore Productions.
This performance series aims to meet the demand for more entertainment downtown, showcase top talent, inspire young musicians, and draw more activity to Malden’s businesses. The Gallery team invites businesses to sponsor the series and residents to volunteer.

On April 10, Soulkore Productions kicks off the series as host of the first Malden-based TrueVibes Open Mic night at the Island Caribbean Cuisine and Drinks restaurant. The occasion offers talented performers the chance to entertain as attendees enjoy Caribbean food and exotic drinks and have a good time with hosts Essex and DJ Nomadik.
Later in the month, April 27, Prateek Poddar, Molly Pinto Madigan, and Rachel Marie will share the stage in a songwriters in the round format. Hauntingly beautiful vocals, artful lyricism, and thoughtful musings on the human condition abound in an evening guaranteed to touch your soul. Madigan, Poddar and Marie, are all accomplished folk artists, each with albums that have earned them public acclaim and a place on the folk scene, including Boston landmarks The Burren and Club Passim, and notable venues Godfrey Daniels and Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA and the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.

On May 31, International renowned vocalist, composer, and educator Gabriela Martina performs original jazz compositions with her world class band – many who are composers in their own right. Her program will include recent works that are part of the Homage to Grämlis project, Martina’s musical story of an upbringing on a beautiful dairy farm in Switzerland.
September 14, East meets West with Tokyo Tramps, a blues trio from Japan. Wife and husband team, Yukiko Fuji (bass) and Satoru Nakagawa (guitar) are American music enthusiasts who met over ten years ago at Berklee College of Music and have been rocking out together ever since. Together with drummer, Kosei Fukuyama, they bring their love of a genre that expresses the Southern Black experience in a way that is respectful to the artform and sure to entertain.
October 4, the Muscari band returns to Malden to perform an evening of Mediterranean music. This band of five internationally recognized musicians, united by a passion for authentic music of the Mediterranean, borrow from the Café Aman era in song and spirit as they blend music from Turkey, Armenia, Greece, Cyprus, and other Mediterranean influences. Performing complex rhythms and haunting melodies that transport hearers Burcu Burcu Güleç - voice, Melissa Lund – oud, George Lernis – percussion, Mal Barsamian – clarinet, and Panos Aivas – kanoun, love to bring together different communities through music.
