HBO Picks Up Julia Child Pilot Filmed In Malden
Scenes from the pilot were shot in Maplewood Square in October. The series is expected to film in the Boston area later this year.

MALDEN, MA — HBO has ordered an eight-episode first season for a show based on cook and TV personality Julia Child. The show's pilot was partially filmed around the Maplewood Meat Market in Malden last fall.
"Julia" stars Sarah Lancashire of BBC's "Happy Valley" in the titular role and David Hyde Pierce as Julia's husband, Paul Child. Written by Daniel Goldfarb and directed by Charles McDougall, the series is based on the life of Julia Child and her pioneering cooking show "The French Chef."
"We are so happy to help bring the incomparable Julia Child back to the small screen, when we need her more than ever," Sarah Aubrey, head of Original Content at HBO Max, said in a statement. "This show's look into her life, marriage, and trailblazing career as she transformed the way we talk about food is an absolute delight. Our incredible cast and formidable creative team are a recipe for success, and we couldn’t be more excited."
