MALDEN, MA — Lifelong Malden resident Gertrude "Gert" Murray celebrated her 100th birthday over the weekend. Mayor Gary Christenson surprised her at a family celebration at the Exchange Street Bistro Sunday to deliver a citation in recognition of her milestone.

Murray has lived in the same house her entire life and is known for her devotion to her family and being a loving aunt. She worked at Malden Hospital for more than 50 years, earning the distinction of being its longest-working employee.

Murray said the secret to such a long and happy life is "the love of her family, walking and taking apple cider vinegar every day," according to a statement from the city.
