MALDEN, MA — Malden City Council President Neal Anderson is not running for re-election this year, he announced Tuesday night.

Anderson, a Malden native, was first elected to the Council in 1983.

"I was both proud and humbled that the city in which I grew up, bought a house, raised a family put its faith in me to help guide its future," Anderson said at Tuesday's Council meeting. "I've remained as proud and humbled by Malden's trust in me over these nearly four decades in public life. But it's time for me to step back and leave room for a younger generation of Maldonians who are just as eager as I was to serve this community."
