Malden Fire Reminds Residents About Barbecue Regulations
How to grill some burgers without burning your house down, courtesy of the Malden Fire Department.

Given the looming onset of summer, this might be a good time to remind Malden residents that certain rules surround barbecuing in the city.
Among the most pertinent:
- Barbecue grilles must be clear of grass and brush, and at least 5 feet away from anything along the lines of tree branches, awnings, and clotheslines.
- Charcoal lighter fluid and electricity are the only material allowed to be used to light charcoal.
- No barbecue grilles are allowed on porches, roof tops, or balconies while they’re cooking stuff, nor are they permitted to be left unattended while cooking stuff.
- A $5 permit is required for anyone using a propane grill, which is available from the Malden Fire Department.
