Malden Marks Zero Fatal Car Crashes In 2019
The number of car crashes in Malden has dropped since 2017, and the city saw no fatal crashes for the first time since 2011.
MALDEN, MA — The city saw zero fatal car crashes last year, while the number of total crashes in Malden has dropped since 2017, according to data from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. There were 955 total crashes in Malden in 2019, down from 977 in 2018 and 1,014 in 2017.
The number of crashes spiked in 2016 and has since hovered between 900 and 1,000. Malden aligns with the statewide trend, which dropped slightly in 2019 and 2018 after increasing over the previous years.
The last time Malden had zero fatal crashes was 2011. Since then, most years saw two fatal crashes in the city.

In 2019, there were 22 serious injury crashes and 92 minor injury crashes in Malden. No injuries were reported in 558 crashes. Of the 955 crashes, 106 were classified as "older driver related" and 86 were classified as "young driver related." There were 49 crashes involving pedestrians, 17 involving bicycles and 13 involving motorcycles.
According to intersection data from 2014-2016, the latest period it is available, the three intersections with the most crashes were Main Street and Centre Street, Commercial Street and Center Street and Charles Street and Commercial Street.
