Malden Mayor Urges 'Extreme Caution' On Halloween Amid Spike
The city, which has already had to roll back its reopening plan, will hand out washable masks Saturday in an effort to curb the spread.
MALDEN, MA — Malden Mayor Gary Christenson is urging residents to use "extreme caution" with their Halloween plans. The city was labeled a high-risk community for the third week in a row Friday, forcing it to revert its reopening plan back to Phase 3, Step 1.
Christenson says residents should limit private gatherings, maintain social distancing, wear a mask and be cautious in parks and other public spaces. The city will host another mask distribution event at two locations Saturday:
- Salemwood School Flu Clinic from 10:30-11:30 AM. (Note that the Flu Clinic runs from 10 AM-3 PM, but the Mayor will be distributing masks from 10:30-11:30)
- Lincoln Commons from 12-1 PM with City Councillor Neal Anderson
Participants will receive a washable mask with the city logo.

"I ask residents to please use extreme caution while participating in Halloween activities this weekend," Christenson said. "Please limit indoor gatherings, if you participate in trick or treating, avoid direct contact, give treats outdoors or set up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take."
