The Tampa Bay Rays have selected a Malden native.

MALDEN, MA — Paul Campbell, a righthanded pitcher from Clemson and a Malden native, was drafted Wednesday by the Tampa Bay Rays. Campbell was drafted in the 21st round as the 619th overall pick.

The team website says Campbell, 21, has one of the "hardest fastball on the team." He pitched at Salisbury (CT) in high school.

Campbell, a junior at Clemson, had a 5.19 ERA in five appearances and two starts last season. He has struck out 46 batters in 39 innings over his three years with the Tigers.
