Malden Takes Memorial Day Observance Online

Since the Memorial Day Parade isn't an option this year, the city is inviting residents to honor veterans in a different way.

MALDEN, MA — Malden's annual Memorial Day Parade is a no-go this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the city isn't canceling its observance altogether. Residents are invited to take a photo on a porch or at home holding a memorial such as a photo, sign, craft or decoration that honors a friend or relative in the armed forces.

Residents may take the photo themselves or they may contact to city to schedule a shoot – from a safe distance – with a volunteer photographer. To participate, please email info@cityofmalden.org or message the city's Facebook page at Facebook.com/cityofmalden for more details.

These shoots will take place over the next four weeks, with a deadline of Sunday, May 17. The photos will be assembled into a video tribute, which will be on the city's social media channels and MATV on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.
