MassDOT Announces Closures In Ted Williams Tunnel

The Ted Williams Tunnel on Interstate 90 through Boston will be shut down for maintenance Tuesday Night.

The following press release was sent to Patch from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation:

BOSTON- June 15, 2015—This coming Tuesday, June 16 overnight into Wednesday, June 17, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s enhanced maintenance schedule will require complete lane closures of the Ted Williams Tunnel, Interstate 90 Westbound, through Boston.

Beginning in East Boston, I-90 Westbound traffic will be diverted to the Sumner Tunnel.

Inside the Sumner Tunnel, traffic should keep right and take the Storrow Drive ramp to reach Leverett Circle. From Leverett Circle, take I-93 Southbound to access I-90 Westbound. A second detour will be active for truckers. Trucks will be directed Northbound on Route 1A to Route 16 Westbound to Route 1 Southbound (Tobin Bridge) to I-93 Southbound.

The full closure will take place from 11 pm on Tuesday and last until 5 am Wednesday morning. In the event of inclement weather, the closure will be postponed.

MassDOT encourages drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes to minimize delays. Those traveling through the area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while traveling along the detour routes.

Work to be performed June 16th into June 17th includes cleaning drains and washing walkways, ceilings and walls.
