New Minor League Football Team Cancels Season
A Facebook post from the "Boston Freedom Fighters" indicates the team's inaugural season, planned at MacDonald Stadium this summer, has been postponed until 2014.

Plans to bring National Spring Football League games and a new local team to Malden have been postponed until 2014, an announcement on the team's Facebook page read Wednesday.Â
The league was originally scheduled to start their six-game season March 23 of this year.Â
"Please be advised that the NSFL has not folded, in fact we are stronger today than we were yesterday!" A comment from the group reads. "We are however changing our start date to March of 2014.

"The reason for the change is to build a stronger base, better prepare two new teams with the posibility of bringing on even more teams. As of now we have a solid comittment from eight teams from Massachusetts to California and we do not want to rush this!! Keep watching for updates and new postings, thank you for your continued interest in the NSFL!!"
A longer statement was published on the team's page Wednesday afternoon, but was later removed. It was not immediately clear why.

The team has faced some controversy in Malden, after city councillor Stephen Ultrino objected to limited alcohol sales on the property and inadequate notice of public hearings related to the proposal.Â
The team released a statement last month saying they would consider moving the team to another city in the event alcohol sales are prohibited.Â
