'Redbones' BBQ Opening Second Location in Malden

The popular Davis Square hot spot will come to 333 Commercial Street this August, with plans to operate a nanobrewery, beer garden and catering services.

A popular Somerville BBQ spot will be opening a new location in Malden, the city has confirmed.

Redbones will bring a full bar, complete with its beer and bourbon list, to 333 Commercial St., the present location of Rosebud Farms.

Owners Robert Gregory and Caryn Whitney said they had plans to open an on-site nanobrewery, offer outside dining and operate catering services on the site, in addition to the restaurant's existing BBQ and drink menus.

City officials joined Gregory and Whitney as they offered free samples to passersby near Malden Center Monday afternoon.

"Many of the young people that have been working for us over the years ...were moving to Malden," Gregory told reporters. "We came to realize, 'wow, this is a good community,' and it's got a lot of people...the more we're here, the more we find we like."

The site's proxomity to a proposed minor league baseball park was also a likely factor in the decision.

Pending their application for a liquor license and some improvements to the building, residents can expect to get their BBQ fix sometime this August.
