Residents Displaced After Malden Parapet Collapse

Part of the parapet on the roof of a Salem Street building collapsed Saturday, damaging a nearby traffic light and forcing an evacuation.

MALDEN, MA — Dozens of residents have been displaced following a parapet collapse in Malden over the weekend.

Part of the parapet on the roof of the Mount Vernon Apartments on Salem Street broke off around 12:30 p.m., damaging a nearby traffic light and spreading debris onto the sidewalk, according to reports.

There were no injuries, but the fire department evacuated at least 70 people from the building, WCVB reported.
