Slow Down, Malden: Citywide Speed Limit Now In Place
The default speed limit across Malden is now 25 mph, unless otherwise indicated.
MALDEN, MA — The city implemented its new "Drive 25" ordinance last week after it was approved by the City Council. That means the default speed limit citywide will be 25 mph, unless otherwise posted.
The city is reducing its speed limit to 25 mph to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists and help reduce traffic accidents. Driving at or below 25 mph improves motorists' ability to avoid crashes and reduces fatalities, city officials said.
"I'm grateful to Councillors Murphy and Crowe for sticking with this initiative as well as Ron Hogan, Ron Cochran, Yem Lip, and Lieutenant Evan Tuxbury who assisted with implementation," Mayor Gary Christenson said in a statement. "Our goal is to continue to do everything we can to keep our residents and visitors safe."
