  • 1913: Firefighters respond to an enormous fire at a chemical plant near Malden Center, which damages a number of nearby buildings on Jackson, Charles and Middlesex Streets. In all, it causes about $350,000 in damages. Despite fears of an explosion, responders are able to contain the fire.

  • 1932: “Spirits are low” at the Malden Police Department, The Boston Daily Globe reports, after someone stole components of the station’s radio, causing officers to miss the afternoon baseball game and other programs.

  • 3. Songs and rhymes for the kiddies: Kids aged 6 months to five years old will have a blast at this event from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Friday at the Malden Public Library.
