The Zonta Club of Malden is hosting multiple stand-outs throughout the city in response to Zonta International’s call for action campaign known as “Zonta says NO – A Program to End Violence Against Women and Girls.”

Each Zonta club around the world was challenged to find a way to raise awareness as well as to educate, inform and provide important information to those in need of assistance.

The stand-outs will be held on Monday, Nov. 25 in front of the Malden District Court House, 89 Summer St., from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; at the Salvation Army 213 Main St., from 2-4 p.m. and at the Malden Center MBTA Station from 5-7 p.m. Additionally, there will be a stand-out at the Malden Teen Enrichment Center, 1 Salem St., from 2-4 p.m., which will include an educational display sponsored by Respond, Inc., New England’s first domestic violence agency.

The Massachusetts Silent Witness exhibit will be displayed at each of these stand-outs. The free-standing, life-sized red wooden figures represent fatalities of domestic violence from throughout the past year. The exhibit began in Minnesota in 1990 after a group of women artists and writers were upset about the growing number of women being murdered by their partners or acquaintances.

To commemorate the lives of the 26 women who died in 1990, they created figures, each one bearing the name of a woman whose life ended violently at the hands of a loved one. A 27th figure was added to represent those uncounted victims whose murders either went unsolved or were erroneously ruled an accident.

The exhibit began in 1991 and is provided by REACH Beyond Domestic Violence, a non-profit organization that works to promote healthy relationships and prevent domestic violence.

This day of awareness is the third project sponsored by the Zonta Club of Malden, in addition to the Zonta says NO Poster Campaign and their public service announcement which may currently be viewed on MATV and at the following link, http://vp.telvue.com/preview?id=T01001&video=172217
