MILTON, MA — A limited amount of seat belt covers that can alert first responders to those in a car with autism are available at the Milton Police Department. The seat belts are courtesy of Norfolk County Sheriff Jerry P. McDermott's office.

The seat belt lets first responders known someone has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum
Disorder and may have trouble communicating, or may resist help, in an emergency.

The covers are printed with the words "I have autism" and "I may resist help." They slip over the straps of a seat belt. The covers are available free to any family who has a relative with autism or on the spectrum. Since supplies are limited, email Lt. Mark Alba at malba@mpdmilton.org to request one or for more information.
