MILTON, MA — A Boston police sergeant was arraigned on an assault and battery charge Tuesday and ordered by a judge to stay away from his wife and kids, reported the Boston Globe.

Brian Dunford of Milton is accused of assaulting a family member last December, according to prosecutors. He was arraigned in Quincy District Court and released on personal recognizance.

Prosecutors asked for Dunford to be required to wear a GPS monitoring device and surrender his weapons, but the judge denied those requests.

Dunford has been placed on administrative leave from the Boston Police Department and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on July 16.
