There is something for everyone at the library. Books, CD’s and entertainment for the young and the young at heart.
This past Saturday, Milton resident, Dr. Dennis Slaughter often referred to as Brother Dennis along with talented musicians delved into The Roots and Fruits of Protest Music. The event held in the Keyes Room which started promptly at 2:00 p.m, was well attended. Brother Dennis gave a brief history behind such well-known songs as Steal Away, Wade in the Water, All my Trials and the very well-known ,We Shall Overcome which is synonymous with the Civil Rights movement era. A thought-provoking clip of video footage of Billy Holiday singing her hit Strange Fruit a song protesting lynching truly was eye-opening.

Protest songs we were reminded , was a way to have voices heard when people joined together for a cause , in the hopes of soliciting change.
A most compelling hour of music which culminated with the entire audience joining together in song for the finale. Lift Every Voice and Sing!!
