A Milton business has been named one of the best places to work at by the Boston Globe.

In the Globe’s annual rankings of the best places to work, Fruit Center Marketplace, a food retail company, was ranked ninth among mid-sized companies.

The ranking is an improvement from number 29 last year.

“The Globe’s annual survey tells us exactly what we hope to hear,” said Fruit Center co-owner Michael Mignosa in a press release. “That management does things efficiently, that new ideas are encouraged, and that our employees feel well-informed about critical decisions concerning the company and their jobs. We could not be more pleased to join the other Top 10 mid-sized companies in the greater Boston area.”

Key factors in the rankings include company direction and execution, employee connections, workload and responsibility, management, pay, and benefits.

Fruit Center Marketplace employs 210 people and operates two stores in Milton and Hingham.

In the mid-sized category, Institution for Savings out of Newburyport earned the top spot.
