Milton To Host Green Up Event In Celebration Of Earth Day

The town cleanup event will take place Saturday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

MILTON, MA — The Milton Department of Public Works (DPW) and Sustainable Milton will host Green Up Milton, a cleanup event in celebration of Earth Day, on Saturday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The town is encouraging groups such as schools, sports teams, neighborhood associations, town clubs, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, churches and temples, and any other small group or individual to participate as a way to clean up Milton.

"Green Up Milton is important not only to beautify Milton, but also to promote proper disposal practices and help combat the effects littering has on our local environment," says the Facebook event page.

"We are lucky enough to be surrounded by such special green spaces like the Blue Hills Reservation and the Neponset River Watershed," it continues. "Our trash negatively affects these fragile ecosystems and the diversity of inhabitants - clogging drainage, cluttering tree limbs, waterways, polluting our soil, water, and air with chemicals and toxins, and trapping or entangling animals!"

The week of the event, the town will supply garbage bags, recycling bags, work gloves, and face masks to volunteers. Anyone who cannot attend May 1 can schedule a cleanup on April 30 or May 2 and the DPW will complete the cleanup May 3 by picking up the bags from designated locations.
