Milton's Troop 3 celebrates Sounting Sunday
Scouting Sunday at St. Mary of the Hills/St. Elizabeth's Collaborative
On Sunday 2/17/19 at the 10:15 a.m. mass, members of Milton's Troop 3 joined the congregation at St. Mary of Hills for Scouting Sunday Mass.St. Mary of the Hills parish is the official sponsor of Troop 3. Though many of the members were absent because of the February Winter break, members present were able to participate by doing the readings. Fr. Michael Ssenfuma, Parochial Vicar of the St. Mary of the Hills and St. Elizabeth Collaborative parish celebrated.
During his homily as is customary, Fr. Michael invited all the children present to occupy the front pews for an up-close interactive dialogue as he interprets the gospel by using real-life examples in language much easier for young ones to understand. Always emphasizing the importance of youth and their place in God's kingdom.
Troop Leader Kevin White addressed the congregation before the final blessing, reiterating the importance of nurturing the young men in carrying out the Scout's Oath," On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law, to help other people at all times , to keep myself physically strong , mentally awake and morally straight.

Milton resident Nick Hajjar, son of Astrid and John Hajjar read the second reading. Nick , a BC High Senior was also recently honored as an Eagle Scout, the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. Nick devoted his efforts to a landscaping project at Our Lady of Annunciation Melkite Greek Catholic Cathedral in West Roxbury. Together with other volunteers Nick who saw the need to give back to his church realized that he could make a huge difference by beautifying the area and so he did. Under Nick's leadership, they spruced up the area with a flower bed garden and an accessible path to the delivery door. An improvement that Nick remarked " brings much pride to all." Nick, a decorated Eagle Scout will attend Boston University in the Fall studying Business.
Fr. Michael before calling all the youth to the altar to impart the final blessing, went on to congratulate the young men including George and Owen who are on the path to becoming Eagle Scouts and Fr. Michael also made special mention of all the parents and leaders who devote time to nurture and teach the future generation.
