State Senator Walter F Timilty has new assignments
The newly renovated Senate Chamber
Last week I had the honor of attending a Black History Month event at the Massachusetts State House. Ambassadors representing various Caribbean islands along with college professors gathered in the Great Hall of Flags . Sitting almost directly underneath the Milton flag , I was filled with pride. A round table discussion brought together ideas of how we can advance the education agenda , in research and development partnerships along with opportunities to study abroad.
Senator Timilty graciously stopped by and was able to congratulate the organizers, Andrew Sharpe the Chairman of the Authentic Caribbean Foundation along with Dr. Claire Nelson of the Institute of Caribbean Studies in Washington, for which he was thanked during her closing remarks.
During the break, I accepted Senator Timilty 's offer to tour the newly renovated Senate Chamber, a place steeped in history. As I gazed upon the grandeur of the chandelier beeming down upon the chamber, a quote by Frederick Douglas caught my eye. " Truth, Justice, Liberty and Humanity will ultimately prevail" how fitting that as I was in the chamber , I thought about what it must have felt like for Angelina Grinke who in 1838 made political history as the first woman to address a United States legislative body vocalizing the abolition of slavery.

Thank you Senator Timilty for this great honor.
I also learned that Senate President Karen Spilka nominated Senator Timilty to Co-Chair the joint committee of Veterans and Federal Affairs along with being the Vice-Chair of the joint committee of the Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture. Nominations ratified by the democratic caucus.
