Independence Day Race Returning to North Andover

The 38th anniversary of the race is expected to host 1,000 runners and walkers with proceeds going towards North Andover seniors

NORTH ANDOVER – On July 4, one of the oldest road races in the region will return to North Andover.

This year marks the 38th anniversary of the North Andover 4th of July Road Race. The event kicks off at the Old Town Common at 8am with a free Kids Fun Run and is followed by 5K and 10K races.

The United States Track and Field certified courses begin and end at the Old Town Common and will include portions of Johnson, Salem, Milk and Chestnut Streets.

Nearly 1,000 runners and walkers register for the race each year, while another 200 or more children participate in the Fun Run.

The entry fee for the adult 5K and 10K is $30 before July 3, and $40 July 3 and 4. The entry fee for children under 12 is $20 before July 3, and $25 July 3 and 4.

The Borderline Running Club, made up of volunteers, serves as host, director and producer of the event. Net proceeds will go towards the Friends of North Andover Senior Center. Benefits to North Andover seniors include transportation assistance; infrastructure needed for upgrades to the Senior Center; support classes and programs; and emergency funds for heating assistance, groceries and utility bills.

Thus far the race has raised over $75,000.
