Lawrence Woman Dies In I-495 Crash

Crash occurred at 7 a.m. near exit 42B on I-495 south near North Andover/Lawrence.

A woman from Lawrence was killed on Wednesday morning after being involved in a two-car crash on I-495 South near North Andover.

Massachusetts State Police say Shelia Ann Purpora, 44, of Lawrence was traveling southbound on I-495 when her 2005 Toyota Scion made contact with a 2011 Toyota Tacoma truck being driven by a 65-year-old man from Amesbury.

Both of the vehicles rolled onto their sides on the highway. Purpora was thrown from her car in the rollover and later pronounced dead at the scene.

The Amesbury man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lawrence General Hospital for evaluation.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning near exit 42B, which leads to North Andover and Lawrence via Route 114.

Traffic was backed up on busy I-495 south for miles, as well as along Route 114.

The crash is currently under investigation. No charges have been filed in the crash.
