New Fire Chief Sworn In For North Andover

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North Andover's new fire chief, John A. Weir III, was sworn in Monday ahead of William McCarthy's retirement Thursday.

McCarthy retired Thursday after 34 years with the department. He was hired Oct. 14, 1986.

Weird, 54, has been with the department since 1999, the Eagle-Tribune reported.

He was promoted to lieutenant in 2006 and was one of four members of the department to apply for chief, the Eagle-Tribune reported.
