North Andover Drops Outdoor Youth Sports Mask Mandate

Coaches, referees and umpires will still need to wear masks until almost all restrictions are lifted at the end of the month.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North Andover began lifting coronavirus restrictions this week, allowing youth athletes to go maskless outdoors beginning Tuesday.

Umpires, coaches and referees still need to wear masks, until May 29 when all youth and amateur sports restrictions will be lifted amid a statewide reopening, the town said.

The town plans to go along with state plans to lift most mask rules and other restrictions on May 29. In North Andover, public meetings are expected to return to normal that day.

Capacity limits, gathering limits and face-covering orders will all be lifted May 29, although a new face-covering advisory will be issued.

  • Non-vaccinated people are urged to keep masking and distancing in most settings
  • Masks will be required in public and private transportation, healthcare facilities, congregate settings and K-12 schools.

Town offices will resume regular hours June 1. The State of Emergency will be lifted on June 15, the town said.
