North Andover High School Names New Athletic Director

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — North Andover Public Schools named a new high school athletic director Monday, picking one of their own.

Steve Nugent, who will take on the role July 1, is the school's longtime guidance director and the head coach for the boys' track teams.

"Throughout this process, Steve impressed students, faculty and community members with his leadership, his relationship-building skills and his overall commitment to the North Andover Athletic Community," Superintendent Gregg Gilligan and Principal Chet Jackson said in an announcement letter.

Nugent will "continue to support" the guidance department as he transitions to the new role.

Nugent is a member of the executive board of the state Track Coaches Association and a graduate of Saint Anselm's College. He has a Master's in Education Psychology from Cambridge College.

Nugent was picked out of three finalists and over 75 applicants.

The Eagle-Tribune reported that Nugent has not decided whether to continue coaching track.
