North Andover Town Election 2020: Turnout Beating 2019

Despite the coronavirus, turnout had already cleared 2019 with more than six hours left in voting, Tuesday.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA — Turnout in North Andover's town election has already cleared the 2019 number, with more than six hours to spare and many early and absentee votes uncounted.

As of 1:52 p.m., 1,762 ballots had been cast, Town Clerk Trudy Reid said, including votes in person, and some early and absentee votes processed. The majority of absentee ballots have been processed and some early ballots have, Reid said.

In 2019, just 1531 voters cast ballots, for eight percent turnout. 2019 did not have contested races, whereas in 2020, there are multiple candidates for both Board of Selectmen and School Committee.

In 2018, a year with contested races, 3091 ballots were cast.

Polls remain open until 8 p.m. and absentee ballots can be dropped off in the business mailbox outside Town Hall until 7:30 p.m.

Reid updated North Andover CAM on the election from North Andover High School, where all precincts vote. She noted the measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, including sanitizing booths and pens, social distancing, and having a single stream for check-in.
