Thunder Shakes Studio Where State Rep Candidates Were Debating
Democratic candidates for the 14th Essex state rep race got an unexpected jolt as their debate wound to a close Tuesday night.
METHUEN, MA -- As Democratic candidates running for state representative in the 14th Essex district concluded their debate Tuesday night, a thunder clap shook the Methuen television studio. Outside, smoke could be seen coming from the industrial building on Ageaen Drive in Methuen, leading participants and studio staff to believe the building had been struck.
As it turns out, the smoke was coming from smelter used to melt down auto parts at another business in the building, according to the Methuen Fire Department.
Christina A. Minicucci of North Andover and Lisa J. Yarid-Ferry of Methuen are running as Democrats in the race. Ryan R. Loscolisa of North Andover is the only Republican on the ballot. The seat is currently held by Rep. Rep. Diana DiZoglio (D-Methuen), who is running for state Senate. The district includes North Andover and parts of Haverhill, Lawrence and Methuen.
