Town Calls On Residents Not To Litter Masks
Disposable masks can be a threat to wildlife, the Conservation Commission said.
NORTH ANDOVER, MA — The North Andover Conservation Commission called on residents to dispose of masks properly, after seeing littered masks around town.
"After heavy rainfall, masks can end up in storm drains which drain into rivers or streams that eventually lead to the ocean," the commission said. "Masks that are carried this far then pose a threat to fragile marine ecosystems."
The commission also recommended that residents cut the strings off masks before throwing them away to reduce the chances of animals getting entangled in them.
