Here's How Norton Students Did On This Year's MCAS Test

Norton School District 10th-graders scored same or slightly higher than state average on MCAS test, while its younger students scored below.

NORTON, MA — Massachusetts has released results of the latest MCAS test, which is used by the state as a guide to measure students' academic performance. In the Norton School District, 10th grade students scored slightly better or the same as the state average, while students in lower grades performed the same or slightly worse than the state average.

In 10th-grade math, 66 percent of Norton students met or exceeded expectations on the MCAS, higher than the 59-percent state average. In English, 63 percent of them at least met expectations, which is slightly higher than the state average of 61 percent. And in science, the same percent of Norton's 10th-graders showed proficiency — 74 percent.

When it comes to Norton's younger students, test scores were either slightly lower or the same as the state average, according to the data released Tuesday.

Forty-five percent of Norton's fifth- through-eighth grade students met or exceeded expectations in math, which is below the state average of 49 percent. In English and in science, the same percentage of Norton students at least met expectations — 52 percent for English, and 48 percent for science.
