No Fans Allowed At TPC Boston PGA FedExCup Event In Norton

NORTON, MA — While professional golf is coming back to Norton, the fans will not be for the 2020 Northern Trust at TPC Boston on Aug. 20-23.

Tournament officials announced on Monday that the event, which will kick off the FedExCup Playoffs, will not include spectators "out of an abundance of caution" amid the coronavirus crisis.

Officials said the decision was made in conjunction with local, state and PGA officials.

"We would like to thank the State of Massachusetts and PGA Tour headquarters for their guidance and support as we arrived at the best decision for all involved in the Northern Trust," Executive Director Julie Tyson said. "Although these decisions are never easy, we are thrilled we are still able to host this event in Boston and to televise live stream all the action to our fans here and around the world. Playing this event in Boston only happens through our sponsor, Northern Trust, unwavering support of our volunteers and the trust of state and local government officials in our health and safety plan. We are grateful for this opportunity."

Professional sporting events without fans were given the go-ahead in Massachusetts as part of phase 3 of its coronavirus reopening on June 6. The Boston Red Sox are scheduled to open their season at Fenway Park against the Baltimore Orioles on June 24.

The PGA Tour was suspended in March due to coronavirus concerns in March. The first event in the tour's return was 91 days later on June 11.

The FedExCup Playoffs include the top 125 players in the FedExCup playoff standings. It will be broadcast on the Golf Channel and on CBS.

Tickets will be refunded through the original method of purchase. Ticketmaster will refund tickets made through the 2020 Northern Trust here or by calling 800-653-8000.

General Admission Grounds, ULTRA Club or Anchor Club purchases made through Account Manager, by phone, or through the PGA TOUR APP, will be issued a refund automatically.

Tickets purchased through third-party outlets will be refunded through those purchasers.
