Peter J. Wiggins!!!!!!
Both Peter and Stephen Whitten Sr. have received the most nominations, but after careful consideration and how important Peter has been for our community (After all, Peter is THE SPIRIT OF NORTON!!), we have decided (together with the runner up), that Peter should be our Honorary Mayor and Grand Marshall of the Halloween Parade!! Congratulations Peter!!!
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? The fundraising efforts will now begin! This will ensure that proceeds will reach Peter's charity of choice and the Norton Parks and Recreation Department.
Peter has selected as his charity Norton Hockey and together with Stephen Whitten Sr., have agreed to fundraise for the organization and the Norton Parks and Recreation!

The Norton Hockey Organization (NHO), incorporated in 2006 was established with the purpose of providing a youth hockey program for Norton residents at the middle school age level. Norton Hockey has supported a middle school program in the Foxboro Junior High School Hockey League for ten years and dreamed of someday establishing a program at the high school level. Thanks to the generous contributions from individuals and businesses in our community, this dream became a reality. For the first time in the 2013-14 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s winter season, Norton High School participated as a varsity ice hockey program.
Despite being added to the school budget the athletic fee for hockey players is $650 per season which is still significantly higher than other sports at the school. So, with our program's operational expenses (ice time for games and practices, referees, coaches, etc.) covered by the school budget we have turned our focus toward the following:
• Funding uniforms, practice jerseys and other team supplies not covered in the operational budget.
• Helping to minimize the cost of participating in the sport at the middle and high school levels for families in need that have children that want to play
• Offering college scholarships to deserving NHS players in their Senior year whom have maintained strong grade point averages as well as service to the hockey program and the community at large.
Norton hockey players from the middle school and high school teams have always given back to the Norton community by regularly participating in events like the Halloween Parade, Founder's Day, the VFW Circle of Flags project as well as several ad hoc projects for various community organizations.
