Norton Police Arrest 13-Year-Old After Bullets Found In Locker

Norton police said they found a rifle and ammunition in the student's bedroom that matched bullets found in suspect's middle school locker.

NORTON, MA – A 13-year-old middle school student is under arrest Thursday after Norton police said three rounds of ammunition were found in the student's locker on Wednesday afternoon and a search of the student’s home Wednesday night uncovered a rifle and ammunition consistent with the kind found in the locker. Norton police said the suspect is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The student was to be brought to Taunton District Court for arraignment. Norton police said the investigation is ongoing by members of the Norton Detective Division and Norton School Resource Officers, in cooperation with Norton Public Schools.

Police were called to Norton Middle School on Wednesday after a teacher overheard a conversation among students that referenced bringing ammunition to school. The teacher said the students discussed trading the bullets for electronic items. The students involved in the discussion were questioned and school staff searched their personal belongings. A search of the student’s locker after school found three rounds of rifle ammunition.

The Norton Middle School winter concert was canceled Wednesday night as a precaution while Norton police searched the school grounds and buses. Norton police said no additional ammunition or any weapons were found on Wednesday at the school.

Police said they also received information on Wednesday that contained photos of a rifle that one student sent to another. Police responded to the suspect’s home and located the rile and matching ammunition in the suspect’s bedroom.
