Norton School Concert Canceled After Ammunition Found In Locker
Norton police said three rounds of ammunition were found in the search of a Norton Middle School student's locker on Wednesday.
NORTON, MA — A Norton Middle School Concert was canceled Wednesday night as Norton police searched the school after three rounds of rifle ammunition were found in a student's locker after school. Norton police said the concert was canceled as a precaution and that no additional ammunition or weapons were found during the search of school grounds and buses.
Norton police said that a middle school teacher reported overhearing a discussion among students during the school day about ammunition being brought to the school. The teacher told police the students said that five bullets were brought to school to make a trade for electronic items. The students involved in the discussion were questioned and school staff searched their personal belongings.
Norton police said no ammunition was found during the initial search, but that school staff searched school lockers after school was dismissed and discovered three rounds of .243-caliber rifle ammunition. Norton police said that K-9s from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council then conducted a thorough search of school property and buses, and that no more ammunition was found, but that the school concert was canceled as a precaution.
