Norton Water Discolored From Unauthorized Asphalt Crew

Norton officials said residents' water in the western part of town became discolored after an asphalt crew illegally accessed a hydrant.

NORTON, MA — Water at residences in the western part of Norton was discolored Thursday after an asphalt crew illegally accessed a hydrant, according to town officials. The incident was a "major disturbance" and required town crews to work "well into the night" to restore water quality, officials said.

Officials emphasized that asphalt crews or other workers do not have the authority to use hydrants — that right is reserved for firefighters and the water department.

Officials said anyone who sees illegal hydrant use should contact the water department at 508-285-0280.
