Grease Fire Causes Massive Blaze At Norwood Meat Factory
Norwood fire officials evacuated Home Market Food employees and a construction crew after a fire broke out at the plant.

NORWOOD, MA — Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at a food processing plant in Norwood. The fire started Friday morning at Home Market Food Inc. at 140 Morgan Drive.
Fire official said the flames started around 8:10 a.m. after a grease fire in an industrial oven. Norfolk, Walpole, Sharon, Westwood and Canton firefighters helped battle the blaze and had the fire under control around 10:15 a.m., Norwood fire spokesman Joe O'Malley told Patch.
O'Malley said there were employees working in the plant and a construction crew making improvements when the fire broke out. All were evacuated without any injuries.

"There's so many moving parts down there," O'Malley told Patch. "When we got there, there was a lot of smoke and fire."
Fire officials estimated the building sustained $250,000 of damage. O'Malley said he wasn't sure how long the plant will need to close, but said it's been able to open within a few days after similar fires that happened previously.

"It's a pretty impressive operation they have there, and they've maintained production in the past," O'Malley said. "A fire like this isn't going to shutdown the factory."
O'Malley said the Board of Health will look at the factory after clean-up efforts and will decided when Home Market Food can re-open.
