'Addicted to Plastics' Documentary Screening at the Morrill Library

Together Yes - dedicated to promoting sustainable living - will present a free screening and brief discussion of the award-winning documentary "Addicted to Plastic" tonight at 7 p.m. at the Morrill Library.

This film is the second part of their fall film series.

"We need to know which plastics are necessary, which plastics are relatively safe, and what scientists are learning about how to make plastics safer," said Susan Clare, of Together Yes. "These matters are addressed in 'Addicted to Plastics,' and the film serves as a fine starting place for gathering the information we need to use and regulate plastics responsibly."

"Addicted To Plastic" is a point-of-view style documentary made from three years of filming in 12 countries on five continents, including two trips to the middle of the Pacific Ocean where plastic debris accumulates. According to the film description, it details plastic's path over the last 100 years and provides expert interviews on practical and cutting edge solutions to recycling, toxicity and biodegradability.

"Information is not negotiable, and it is a personal responsibility to find information about things affecting ourselves and our world," Clare said. "Once armed with information, we can make better choices in our days and can influence the actions of corporations and governments. Plastics is one area we have been too silent about, and I expect it might have to do with our lack of information."
