Gas Line Breaks, Drivers Advised to Avoid Lenox St.

Shortly before 3 p.m. today a gas line ruptured on Lenox St. in Norwood near Hillside Ave.

According to police, a handful of residents were evacuated as a precaution but were returned to their homes at about 5:20 p.m.

Norwood Police and Fire departments continue to work on scene, and suggest that motorists avoid Lenox St. between South Norwood and the commuter rail station at Norwood Central. Northbound traffic is being rerouted from Lenox St. to Willow St. to Pleasant St. Southbound traffic is being rerouted from Lenox St. to Allen Rd. to Pleasant St. These detours are expected to last throughout the evening.
