Health Inspections: Norwood News, Honey Dew, Express Pizza and More

The following health inspection reports were submitted by Board of Health inspectors.

Friday- April 5, 2013

- Person in charge not knowledgeable in explaining or demonstrating procedures for cleaning and sanitizing in 3bay sink, unable to properly set up 3bay sink and state the required temperatures for the safe refrigerated storage of potentially hazardous foods.

Observed the interior of ice scoop at ice machine with slime and debris built up.

Observed an unlabeled blue chemical bottle in service area - provide proper label.

Replace burned out light bulbs above 3bay sink.

Re-training of staff needed. Re-inspection scheduled.

Note: permit holder will be notified to appear for an administrative hearing with the Superintendent/Director and Sanitarian at the Norwood Health Dept.

- Sanitizer in designated cup used to sanitize the coolatta mixer blade observed to be too strong, > 200ppm.

Ensure personal beverages are spillproof and stored in designated area. General sanitation good. Permit posted and applicable certs current and posted.

- Wet wiping cloths observed throughout prep tables in kitchen area - must be stored in sanitizer solution at proper concentration.

Post food allergy certificate.

General sanitation good. No pest activity observed.

Final rinse of chemical dish machine in compliance.

Note: Hoods above fryolators and grill overdue for service - sticker on unit noted with last service date of May 2012 - fire dept.

 

Wednesday- April 3, 2013

- Sanitizer concentration in spray bottle too strong - sanitizer must be tested with appropriate test kit before being filled/mixed.

Post food permit for 2013. Post food manager certificate and food allergy certificate of assigned full time food manager.

Interior of Toastmaster food drawers on cook line observed with heavy soil and debris build up - more frequent cleaning needed.

Note: ensure potentially hazardous cold foods are held at or below 41F.

Re-inspection scheduled.

- Site inspection regarding complaint from customer becoming ill after ordering and consuming oatmeal, coffee and milk on 4/1/13 from establishment.

Observed the temp of milk and cream dispensers <41F. The food code dates on boxes and packages of oatmeal, apples, milk and cream observed within code.

Proper storage of the foods above were observed in coolers and dry storage area.

Observed chemicals stored away from food and food contact surfaces.

Note: as of 4/4/13, no other reports of customers becoming ill.

River Ridge Cafe, 100 River Ridge Drive- Hand sink is draining slowly - repair.

No unit thermometer observed in undercounter cooler. Doors to undercounter cooler and top of convection oven observed with heavy soil build up.

Post food permit for 2013.

Reviewed proper cooling procedures with person in charge.

General sanitation - counter tops, equipment, floor, walls - needs to improve.

Re-inspection scheduled.

Note: remove unused equipment from kitchen.

 

Monday- April 1, 2013

Alta Health Services, 1418 Providence Highway- Sale of pre-packaged vitamins and supplements.

Spot check of food code dates good.

Cooler observed at 33F - for storage of specific vitamins.

Post food permit for 2013.

- Pre-packaged candy, chips and soda on site.

Seal gap around electrical panel in storage room - this is a possible pest entry point.

Spot check of food code dates in compliance. Food permit posted.

Note: ensure boxes of pre-packaged food in storage are covered at all times.

- Ice machine scoop holder and two knives stored as clean on the magnetic knife holder was observed with soil build up.

Post food allergen employee poster in employee area.

Freezer temp observed <0, Cooler observed at 37F.

All applicable certs current and posted.

To Beirut, 15 East Cottage Street- No stemmed cooking thermometers observed on site - provide.

Observed knives stored in between the wall and 3bay sink - clean and sanitize knives and store them in sanitary manner.

Provide food allergy notice at each point of service where food is ordered.

Personal beverages must be spill proof and stored in a designated area.

Note: person in charge informed inspector he will be attending a food manager certification course in several weeks. A full time certified food manager is already assigned.

 

Friday- March 29, 2013

- Pre-op inspection for issuance of food permit - turn key operation.

Coolers observed <40F, freezers observed < -5F. Quat sanitizer used for 3bay sink and wipe cloth buckets - proper test kits on site.

Provide anti-bacterial soap for dispenser at sink.

Provide stemmed cooking thermometers.

Clean undercounter to shelves in service area.

Interior of ice machine clean - store scoop in sanitary manner.

Note: facility permitted to have food.

 

Thursday- March 28, 2013

- Observed heavy dust build up on fan guards inside Coke cooler - more frequent cleaning needed.

Post food permit for 2013.

Spot check of food code dates good.

- Minimal inventory of chips, soda, and candy.

Shower #1 on left side - bottom wall tiles in one section need re-caulking, Temp of stand-up beverage cooler <39F.

Permits posted for 2013.

Note: ensure chemicals and food are stored separately in rear storage room.

 

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Meditech/Rita's, 720 University Avenue - Sanitizer in wipe cloth bucket too strong, >200ppm.

Personal belongings (beverages) stored with food in rear stand-up cooler - designate area away from food.

Several small in-use CB's badly stained and scored - provide.

Grease trap log in use. Dish machine high temp in compliance, final rinse 185F.

General sanitation good.

Cook line hood unit due for service April 2013.

Note: last date of service noted on ansul system tag was April 2012.

-Approximately 60 packages of food (chips, candy bars, juice) observed passed their code date - fine issued, person in charge informed that future repeat violations of this kind will result in additional fines and further Board of Health compliance action.

Note: a warning was issued for the same violation.

- Unlabeled chemical spray bottle in prep area.

Wall behind cook line and cover to panini machine heavily soiled.

Several in-use CB's badly stained and scored.

Note: sink at cook line must remain unobstructed and accessible. All certificates current and posted.
