MA Coronavirus Update: 9 More Die, Cases Hit 4,257

Massachusetts' death toll from the new coronavirus hit 44 as the state Department of Public Health announced more than 1,000 new cases.

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health on Saturday announced nine more deaths from the new coronavirus, bringing the state's death toll to 44. Officials also announced 1,017 more cases, bringing the total to 4,257.

Cases have skyrocketed amid expanded testing and the ongoing transmission of the virus. More than 35,000 individuals have been tested so far.

There are 842 cases in Middlesex County, 843 in Suffolk County, 490 in Norfolk County and 472 in Essex County.

The nine new deaths reported were:

  • A woman in her 60s in Essex County.
  • A woman in her 80s in Suffolk County.
  • A man in his 80s and a woman in her 50s in Worcester County.
  • A woman in her 80s and a man in his 80s in Norfolk County.
  • A man in his 70s and a man in his 80s in Hampden County.
  • A woman in her 90s in Hampden County.
