Norwood 2012 Crime and Fire Statistics

The 2012 town report for Norwood is in and here’s a rundown of some interesting statistics.

From January 2012 to December 2012, Norwood Police responded to 17,997 calls for service, issued 7,465 motor vehicle citations, investigated 1,323 motor vehicle crashes, filed 2,908 criminal complaints, and made 1,174 arrests.

Criminal offenses reported included 172 assault and battey charges, four assaults on a police officer, two counts of assault to murder, 21 assaults with a dangerous weapon three charges of possession of a container of alcohol in a vehicle, one count of arson, 73 building break ins, 106 vehicular break ins, two bomb threats, 147 drug possession charges, 150 larceny charges, 293 larceny charges, five cases of possession of a Molotov cocktail, two cases of rape, one case of forcible child rape, three cases of armed robbery and 55 cases of shoplifting.

The Norwood Fire Department reported 76 structure fires, eight vehicle fires, 39 trash fires, 28 electrical fires, nine unauthorized burnings, 22 brush fires and one case of a fire outside near a building.
