Norwood Fire Dept. Announce Promotion of Deputy Fire Chief

NORWOOD, MA — Norwood officials announced the promotion of a 15-year veteran of the Norwood Fire Department. Lt. John Cody was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief and was officially sworn in at a private ceremony on Monday.

Deputy Chief Cody has worked for the Norwood Fire Department since 2005 where he began his career as a firefighter EMT. He was promoted to lieutenant of the Fire Prevention Office in 2018 where he led the annual and quarterly inspections of schools, houses of worship and restaurants in town. He also directed the inspection of smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms at residential homes for real estate transactions.

Along with holding numerous fire safety and inspection certifications, Deputy Chief Cody received a Fire Chief Credential from the Massachusetts Fire Service Commission in 2018. He is the first member of the Norwood Fire Department to receive such accreditation.

“Deputy Chief Cody has been an exemplary member of the Norwood Fire Department during his 15 years of service,” Chief Morrice said. “I congratulate him on this next step in his career and look forward to the experience and leadership he will bring to this new role.”

In his new role, Deputy Chief Cody will be responsible for developing a standardized training program for Norwood firefighters in an effort to enhance and improve training for department members.

Deputy Chief Cody holds a degree from Columbia Southern University. He also honorably served in the United States Marine Corps.
