Norwood Man Robbed Norwood Bank At Knifepoint: Police

Police found the man at the back entrance of Norwood Hospital.

NORWOOD, MA — Norwood police arrested a man on Friday afternoon after they say he robbed Norwood Ban k on Central Street at knifepoint. The man robbed the bank alone and ran off with the cash, police said.

Matthew Bretti, 35, was charged with armed robbery and wanted on a default warrant at the time of his arrest. Police received the call about the robbery and a description of the subject around 12 p.m. Several people who fit the description of the robber were stopped and briefly questioned.

Officer Brett Baker, who had responded to the bank to interview the teller, was able to view images of the bank robber. He used an app officers carry on their phones, called BOLO Mobile, to take a photo of the image and immediately transmit it to the cell phone of every officer on the Department. Two officers, Lt. Flanagan and Sgt. McDonagh, immediately recognized him and broadcasted his name over the radio.

Officer Glaser, who was checking the area, spotted Bretti as he entered the back entrance at Norwood Hospital. He called for back up and several officers helped him arrest Bretti. As the officers approached the man, he dropped cash which we believe was stolen during the bank robbery.
