Norwood Native Takes Part In NHL All-Star Game

Norwood native Noah Hanifin of the Carolina Hurricanes was on the ice Sunday for the NHL's All-Star Game.

NORWOOD, MA — It was a big weekend for Norwood native Noah Hanifin, who took part in his first NHL All-Star Game Sunday.

The defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes took part in the annual game as a member of the Metropolitan Division All-Stars. Unlike other sports, the annual showcase of the NHL's best features 20-minute 3-on-3 matches between four teams of divisional all-stars.

Unfortunately, the Metropolitan Division fell to the Atlantic Division 7-4. The Pacific Division beat the Atlantic Division in the final, 5-2. He spent 6:51 of the 20-minute minigame on the ice and had one shot on goal.

The night before, Hanifin took part in the speed skating competition at the skills competition. His lap around the rink earned him a time of 14.317 seconds and seventh place among eight competitors. Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers topped the competition, clocking a time of 13.454 seconds.
