Roy Wesley Alderson Meears Jr., of Norwood died on Sept. 9, 2012 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of 50 years to Joan (Doddis) Meears. Devoted father of Robert Roy Meears of S.C. and Andrew Albert Meears and his wife Rachel of Norwood. Son of the late Roy Meears Sr. and the late Ebba (Berkland) Meears. Brother of the late Donald E. Meears and John H. Meears. Cherished grandfather of Desiree, Katlyn, Bret, Robert Roy Jr. and Chloe.
Roy graduated from Norwood High School class of 1946 and was the recipient of the Lane Medal. He played baseball and was an outstanding pitcher for Norwood High School earning a letter in 1946 and also pitched in the Twilight League. Roy then went on to graduate from Boston University College of Liberal Arts class of 1953 where he received his B.A. in History. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army and was a Radio Operator in the Signal Corps in Austria and Italy. Upon returning home he entered B.U. and earned his Masters Degree in History in 1958. He was a teacher of History, Math and Accounting in both public and parochial high schools for 33 years. His interests included the game of baseball, listening to classical music, reading, and collecting books, particularly works of history and mystery novels written by British authors. Over many decades he developed a collection of newspapers clippings and ephemera of various subjects.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the , 1248 Washington St. Norwood, MA. Burial will follow the visiting hours at Highland Cemetery, Norwood with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Morrill Memorial Library, 33 Walpole St., PO Box 220, Norwood, MA. 02062.
