The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the area, which will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. A high around 95 degrees is expected and the heat index could reach 103.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible, according to the NWS. The service recommends that people drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sunshine, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
