Norwood's Joe Collins Named Certified Economic Developer

Collins earned the designation from the International Economic Development Council.

NORWOOD, MA — Norwood's Budget & Management Analyst Joseph Collins earned the designation of Certified Economic Developer. The designation denotes a mastery of skills in economic development, professional attainment, and a commitment to personal and professional growth.

Collins earned the designation from the International Economic Development Council after completing the exam on March 6.

Collins started working for the town in July 2019 and since then has completed several economic initiatives:

Completed an economic impact analysis of the Route 1 Corridor in Norwood

  • Assisted with the Moderna TIF negotiations
  • Managed two COVID-19 small business grants
  • Researched and advertised grant & loan opportunities for businesses impacted by the COVID-19 shutdown
  • Assisted in the development of the outdoor dining program, which helped Norwood restaurants begin offering on-site, outdoor dining earlier than restaurants in most Massachusetts municipalities
  • Started virtual round table discussions with the Norwood Planning & Economic Development Department, Friends of Norwood Center, and Neponset River Regional Chamber of Commerce to discuss COVID-19 related business relief programs and initiatives
