Dump Truck Catches Fire In Norwood

The fire started in the trash on the back of a dump truck, but the driver quickly got rid of the flaming trash in a safe location.

NORWOOD, MA — A quick-thinking Waste Management truck driver was praised by Norwood fire officials for dumping a trash fire that could've spread through the truck.

On Tuesday, a fire broke out in the trash on the back of a dump truck that was driving near St. Timothy’s on Nichols Street. The driver noticed the fire and whipped the truck into the middle of an empty parking lot and dumped the blazing trash, fire officials said.

The location to dump the fire was perfect because it left the flames nowhere to spread to and spared the truck. Norwood fire crews were able to extinguish the fire, but not before going through more than 750 gallons of water.
